ACB Block Systems

St. Vrain Lakes – Carma Colorado, Longmont CO.

This project was constructed for Carma Development Colorado in conjunction with the infrastructure for a new master plan development located north of the St. Vrain River and East of I25 near Longmont, Colorado. Hydro Environmental Services' scope of work encompassed installation of seven spillways with concrete cutoff walls. Several challenging aspects made this project a unique opportunity as the jobsite was constrained by Navigable Waters of the U.S as Spillway #5 was bounded by USACE Jurisdictional Waters. Installation of this spillway occurred with no boundary infraction by the HES team. Another spillway, Spillway #7 required temporary diversion of existing surface flow during construction. Construction in this saturated area was further complicated by the inclusion of a 15' cut-off wall on saturated soils. Soil bearing capacity issues were addressed and the cut-off wall was installed per specification with no issue. Upon completion of wall backfill and compaction an Articulating Concrete Block System was placed to provide a "Green Vegetated Look" to the hard armor system. Less the six hours after the dewatering pumps were removed the downstream armoring system was flooded due to wetland flows.

DADS – Denver Area Disposal Site, Aurora CO.

This project was a fast track project with design completed by Goulder. Waste Management approached Hydro Environmental Services through Contech in early November to see if a December completion was possible. The project specifics were carefully evaluated and it was determined a year end completions was obtainable. The 70L ACB system was successfully installed on the Northwest stockpile Downchute.
